"World Heritage Cities of Sout Europe / Mediterranean"

The Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), located in Quebec (Canada), is a non profit governmental entity that covers to 200 cities in the world from a total list of cities declared as World heritage by the UNESCO, with a final interest which is to sensitise to people and governments about the management and protection of the fragile structures of the world heritage works.

The city of Córdoba has the Bureau of the Regional Secretary of South Europe and the Mediterranean area of the OWHC for cities from Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Malta and The Vatican city.

To promote the knowledge and protection of the world heritage, the Regional Secretary of South Europe and the Mediterranean area with the cooperation of the Unión de Radioaficionados de Córdoba (Spain), member of the URE, creates this Award according to the following rules:

This award has two categories: Gold Award, and Silver Award.

Gold Award

To apply for the Gold Award (which consists in a plaque), it’s necessary to contact with radio amateurs located in the regional area of all of the World Heritage cities which are part of the Regional Secretary of South Europe and the Mediterranean area of the OWHC.

These are the cities (actually 57), and the countries where they are located. (See Anexo I)

Silver Award

To apply for the Silver Award (A full colour A3 diploma), It’s necessary to contact with a minimum of the 50% of the cities (actually 28).

Both award’s categories are compatible sending an endorse.

All licensed radio amateurs are welcome to participate and obtain these awards.

Will be valid all contacts made since September the18th, 2001 date when the Regional Secretary of South Europe and the Mediterranean area of the OWHC was created.

All modes are valid

Bands

All bands and segments recommended by the IARU are valid.

To apply for any of the two awards it will be necessary to send the QSL’s and the log with the contacts to: Unión de Radioaficionados de Córdoba (URC), P.O. Box 5, 14080 - Córdoba (Spain) . The QSL’s will be returned back to the applier together with the Award, no fee or payment is asked for this award (All QSL’s with modified or unreadable data on them will not be accepted).

It could be possible that no radio amateurs will be living on some of the cities of the list, so every 6 months, and during 5 days (from 1 to 5 of June and from 1 to 5 of December), it will be activated a Joker station from Córdoba (Spain) using a special callsign (ED7SRS), to complete all 57 cities.

The city that this special station will be activating will be published in the URC’s official web site http://www.ea7urc.org ,  official webs www.ovpm.org and www.ovpm-rsem.org 15 days before its activation, and during the operation itself the station will be announcing which city is valid for.

Any final decisions adopted by the URC will not be discussed.

NOTE:

Due to the huge historic heritage of the Mediterranean area, the UNESCO is declaring new cities as World Heritage every year, those new cities will be published in the OWHC’s (Regional secretary of South Europe and the Mediterranean area) Web site where detailed information will be available.
