OWHC SOLIDARITY DAY

10th Anniversary of the OWHC (08-09-93)

 

On the occasion of the Solidarity Day of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), and the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of its foundation, which took place in the city of Fez (Morocco), on 8 September 1993, the city of Córdoba, headquarters of the South Europe / Mediterranean Regional Secretariat of the OWHC, is to hold the following events:

 

1.- Raising of the OWHC flag over the offices of the Regional Secretariat (Caballerizas Reales).

 

2.- Open day for monuments and municipal buildings in the World Heritage area.

 

3.- Organisation of free guided tours round the monuments and buildings, aimed at local citizens.

 

4.- Press releases to the media, raising awareness of World Heritage.

 

5.- Communiqués sent to managers of the rest of the World Heritage monuments and buildings, informing them of the events planned for this day.

 

6.- Official presentation of the First Internet Competition “Surfing Round the South Europe / Mediterranean World Heritage Cities”.

 

7.- Inauguration of an exhibition featuring the works received and prize-giving ceremony, of the First “Córdoba World Heritage” Plastic Arts Competition, at 12:00 h in Caballerizas Reales, followed by a children’s party in the courtyard.

 

8.- Prize-giving ceremony for the schoolchildren attending the inauguration of the First “Córdoba World Heritage” Plastic Arts Competition exhibition, the awareness-raising game “Cordópolis” World Heritage, a project introducing Córdoba to the Youth Forum at the 7th International Colloquium of the OWHC in Rhodes (Greece).

 

Solidarity Day of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), in Guimarães (Portugal),

On the occasion of the Solidarity Day of the Organisation of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), and the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of its foundation, which took place in the city of Fez (Morocco), on 8 September 1993, the city of Guimarães,  is to hold the following events:

1.- OCPM flags hoist in the balcony of Guimarães Town Hall

2.- The Town Hall required the collaboration of the local museums and churches in order to have their doors opened and/with free entries during that day.

3.- Through the press and local “Cultural Events Agenda” the Town Hall informed about the meaning of Solidarity Day OCPM and  invited everyone  to visit monuments and museums from Guimarães, which are important features of the identity, culture and origins of Guimarães.
