CONCLUSIONS FROM THE SECOND SOUTH EUROPE / MEDITERRANEAN
REGIONAL CONFERENCE OF WORLD HERITAGE CITIES. The South Europe and Mediterranean Regional Secretariat backs and supports the candidacy of Córdoba as European City of Culture for the year 2016.
1. Various activities to be held on the occasion of the OWHC Solidarity Day (08/09/03), co-ordinated by the Regional Secretariat (open-doors day for monuments, historic buildings, museums, free guided tours around historic areas for residents and visitors alike, simultaneous presentation of the First Internet Competition "Surfing Round the South Europe and Mediterranean World Heritage Cities", awareness-raising press release to the written media, etc.). 2. Creation and announcement of the First Internet Competition "Surfing Round the South Europe and Mediterranean World Heritage Cities". 3. Creation of a Cultural Agenda for the OWHC South Europe and Mediterranean Regional Secretariat. 4. To promote and facilitate exchanges between respective cities in different social, economic, tourist, cultural and town planning areas, etc. 5. Constitution of the following Technical Commissions: 5.1 Funding Commission (Portugal). In principle, Évora will be the co-ordinating city for this Commission, though this matter will be put to the rest of the Portuguese World Heritage cities for their confirmation. 5.2 Tourism Commission. Greece. The co-ordinating city for this Commission will be Rhodes. 5.3 Town Planning and Rehabilitation Commission (France). The co-ordinating city for this Commission will be Lyon. 5.4 Culture Commission (Italy). The co-ordinating city for this Commission will be Naples. 5.5 The Regional Secretariat of Córdoba (Spain) will co-ordinate the working, make-up, objectives and programmes of all the Commissions. 6. Development and fostering of Cultural Tourism in World Heritage Cities of the South Europe and Mediterranean Regional Secretariat, by drawing up and implementing a Cultural Tourism Promotion Plan. 7. To carry out joint actions to make International Conferences itinerant between all the World Heritage Cities of the South Europe and Mediterranean Regional Secretariat, with the collaboration of the respective Conventions Bureaux. 8. Third Regional Conference of the South Europe and Mediterranean World Heritage Cities of the OWHC, to be held in the Portuguese city of Évora, during the first quarter of 2005. Subsequently, these Regional Conferences will alternate venue between the main location of the Regional Secretariat (Córdoba) and a member city, alternating equally between the different countries.
